List: The First Dogs of the White House – Presidents Love Their Dogs!

The White House has a long history with dogs, dating back to old Abe Lincoln himself. There seems to be a special bond between the Commander in Chief and their canine companions. President Obama has created some great photo ops during his recent tenure playing with his pooch Bo. Here's a look at some of the dogs that have graced the West Wing:

Barack Obama playing with his dog Bo (Portuguese Water Dog).

Bill Clinton and his dog Buddy (Chocolate Labrador Retriever).

Ronald Regan posing with his dog Rex (King Charles Cavalier Spaniel).

Gerald Ford proudly sits with his beautiful dog Liberty (Golden Retriever). Liberty had a litter of pups while at the White House.

Richard M. Nixon and Checkers (Cocker Spaniel).

John F. Kennedy and his dog Charlie (Welsh Terrier). Charlie often attended the oval office with President Kennedy.

Dwight D. Eisenhower and Heidi (Weimaraner).

Franklin D. Roosevelt and Fala (Scottish Terrier). Fala captured the attention of the public and followed Roosevelt everywhere, becoming part of Roosevelt's public image.

Herbert Hoover and his dog King Tut (Belgian Shepherd).

Calvin Coolidge and his two dogs Rob Roy (White Collie) and Tiny Tim (Chow Chow).

Abraham Lincoln and his beloved dog Fido. He would often follow Lincoln around the streets of Springfield, Illinois.
